War Times Review
[Posted on 06/29/04 10:38pm by Windaria]

Porcius isn't impressed with Legend's WW2 RTS War Times.
War Times, from Legend Studios, is a real-time strategy game set in World War II, or at least the European half of the war. Loving attention was paid to the videos that appear between scenarios, and the unit design for many of the vehicles is outstanding. I wish the developers had paid as much attention to the underlying design of the game itself.

Unreal Tournament 2004 Review
[Posted on 06/28/04 10:05pm by Zaxxon]

In tonight's review, Baldy awards the highest score we've ever given out. Unreal Tournament 2004 is the lucky recipient.
If any game deserved a full score, in my opinion, this game would be it. The most important things to look at are Entertainment Value and Multiplayer, which both earned a full score. That should answer anybody’s question of whether to purchase this game or not. My favorite game of the year? Easily. My favorite game of all time? There's certainly a case for it.
I've put in more than 75 hours of play on the game and its demo, so I can attest to every affectionate sentence that Baldy has scribed--this game is the real deal.

Syberia 2 Review
[Posted on 06/27/04 10:28pm by Windaria]

Itsatrap weighs in on Microids' follow-up to their hit Syberia in our latest review.
Syberia 2 is really more of a "part 2" than a sequel. As a follow-up, it does an adequate job of finishing the story started in the original game. However, it ultimately leaves as many questions as it answers. The style and artwork of the game are quite good, and it corrects one of my major gripes about the first game, namely the lack of background activity. However, in other respects the world still feels very dead with interaction spots few and far between. In the end, Syberia 2 ends up being an entertaining follow-up that builds on the original. However, it doesn't stand up quite so well as a stand-alone offering.

Curse: The Eye of Isis Review
[Posted on 06/24/04 08:26pm by Zaxxon]

Windaria offers up a tepid review of the campy Xbox RPG Curse: The Eye of Isis.
Though horror games always try to startle, scare, or surprise the gamer, they always fail with me. Sure there may be a tad of the jump factor, but in all honesty they typically just annoy me when they try. Curse: The Eye of Isis is no different, and the story that it tells is about as cliché as you can get. Nonetheless, since the whole game has a somewhat campy feel to it, and most of the game puzzles end up fitting well together, once you figure them out, I must say that I enjoyed the game.

Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow Review
[Posted on 06/16/04 02:37pm by Windaria]

Kaigen expounds on the joys of Pandora Tomorrow, Ubisoft's follow-up to the extremely successful Splinter Cell.
I've probably said this before in previous reviews, but a proper sequel should take what the first game did well and simply do it better. It doesn't need to, and probably shouldn't be a whole new experience. Pandora Tomorrow actually does a bit of both. The single-player expanded on the strengths of the original, and eliminated some of its problems, though perhaps not every one I was hoping for. The multiplayer, however, is unmistakably Splinter Cell but completely new at the same time. While there's still a lot of places I'd like to see the series go, I can find little about Pandora Tomorrow not to be enthusiastic about.

Far Cry Review
[Posted on 06/12/04 02:55pm by Windaria]

Blackhawk's jaw is stuck to the floor, even after more than twenty-five hours of Far Cry play.
Go buy Far Cry. Summary enough? Seriously - take the best graphics available on the market right now, add in jaw-dropping sound, and intense gameplay that gives you true freedom to act as you choose, and you have Far Cry. Far Cry is the finest shooter to hit the market this year, and ranks in the top ten of the past decade.

Sacred Review
[Posted on 06/12/04 02:42pm by Windaria]

Kaigen reviews Sacred, a Diablo-esque hack-n-slash from Ascaron and Encore.
Sacred is easily recommendable for fans of hack n' slash RPGs. Odds are it will be a very familiar experience to veterans of the genre, but there are a few fresh ideas to be had, as well. With a few more months to polish the game and develop some of the features more fully, it could have been great, but it's certainly a quality game all the same.
